Protection, gender-based violence (GBV) and safeguarding programmes I’ve led or helped build across refugee and humanitarian settings in Bangladesh and Mozambique.
Programmes & projects
GBV Prevention & Response in Nampula
As de facto Protection Lead for the Nampula Field Office, led GBV prevention and response in refugee and displacement-affected areas. Expanded services to remote areas through emergency programming and the Humanitarian–Development–Peace (HDP) Nexus approach, and set up government-owned referral pathways for multi-sectoral services.
Accountability to Affected Populations
Strengthened complaint and feedback mechanisms and safe reporting channels, so refugees and displaced communities could raise concerns and be heard. Represented UNHCR in the GBV Area of Responsibility and PSEA Network.
Girl Shine Programme
Led the pilot and rollout of the Girl Shine Programme within UNHCR Bangladesh’s GBV programme, empowering adolescent Rohingya girls through life skills education, resilience building and community engagement.
Community-Based Safe Shelters
Spearheaded the design, piloting and scale-up of community-based Safe Shelter initiatives across all 33 Rohingya refugee camps, creating safer environments and better access to protection services for women, girls and other at-risk people.
Child Marriage Prevention Initiative
Led the joint UNHCR–Plan International initiative to prevent child marriage among Rohingya refugees, working alongside Girl Shine to build girls’ resilience and engage families and communities.
GBV Case Management & GBVIMS
Strengthened GBV case management and the GBV Information Management System through technical guidance and quality assurance for implementing partners. Trained partners, government counterparts and humanitarian staff on GBV, PSEA and child protection.
Emergency GBV Response, 2017 Influx
Led the rapid scale-up of GBV programming during the 2017 Rohingya refugee emergency: set up Women and Girls’ Friendly Spaces, built case management systems and referral mechanisms, and supervised 36 mobile protection staff.
Learning Centres for Displaced Children
Coordinated the set-up and running of 84 Learning Centres for displaced Myanmar children in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, including teacher training, quality monitoring and child-protection standards.
